Did you know that the construction of the burial grounds of Chinese  Emperor Qin Shi Huang—who unified the empire in 221 BC—involved almost 700,000 workers? Believing that he would continue to rule in the afterlife, Qin Shi Huang ordered a complete imperial compound built underground. Amazingly, it included thousands of life-size terracotta soldiers.
