Welcome to World History. You are about to embark on a journey in time. It will take you from 3500 BCE to the present day. Along the way you will be introduced to societies and individuals that will astound you. Did you know that the construction of the burial grounds of Chinese Emperor Qin Shi Huang—who unified the empire in 221 BC—involved almost 700,000 workers? Believing that he would continue to rule in the afterlife, Qin Shi Huang ordered a complete imperial compound built underground. Amazingly, it included thousands of life-size terracotta soldiers.
