Important Information for Seniors from the Counselor’s Office

2018 College and Career Night Presentation

Transcripts

Each college you apply to will need to receive an official transcript. To receive transcripts, you must sign up in the career center. Please allow about 3-4 days for them to be prepared. You will not be called up when they are ready to be picked up. You are responsible for picking up transcripts and mailing them. You may receive 5 transcripts at no charge during high school. Each additional transcript will cost $3.00 cash or money order. If you are applying to a college in Georgia, we can submit transcripts electronically via GAFutures. You will just need to list those schools on the transcript sign-up sheet. There is no charge for a transcript submitted electronically.

ACT/SAT scores are not on the transcript. Those will need to be sent electronically from the testing company. ACT scores are available from www.actstudent.org and SAT scores are available from www.collegeboard.org

Counselor Recommendation Forms and Letters

If the college you are applying to has a counselor recommendation form, you will need to bring it to your counselor. Please include a copy of your resume or you may use the Request for Letter of Recommendation form available in the career center. Once you have completed the form, make copies to have on hand for future use. You will need multiple letters when you begin applying for scholarships.

If you need your counselor or teacher to write a recommendation letter for you for a college or scholarship application, you will need to drop off your resume or completed Request for Letter of Recommendation form to Mrs. Lumme along with information about who/where the letter is going.

Scholarship Applications

Most local groups and clubs will send scholarship applications to the school in mid January. Most of these will have a deadline of March 1st. These applications will be available on the NGHS website

as well as in the scholarship filing cabinet in the Career Center. If you need letters of recommendation, please don’t wait until the last minute to ask…you will want to give the person you are asking plenty of time to write that letter! Also important is to check with the college you are applying to for scholarships that may be applicable to you.

Popular scholarship search engines include www.fastweb.com www.cappex.com www.scholarships.com

Diploma Information

Diplomas are ordered in January. You will be responsible for making sure your name is spelled correctly by checking and signing off on the diplomas check list in the Career Center. If your name has an error, is missing your middle name or suffix (ie. Jr. or II or III) or any diacritical marks, you will need to let Mrs. Lumme know as soon as possible so the changes can be made.

Outstanding Fees and Fines

You are responsible for taking care of all outstanding fees, fines, books etc. before graduation. You will not be permitted to participate in Graduation activities until these are taken care of.
