Attendance Counts!

One of the most important things parents can do to help their child achieve academic success is to assure their child is in school every day. Research has shown that a child's attendance record may be one of the biggest factors influencing his or her success. By attending school regularly, your child is more likely to keep up with daily lessons and assignments and will take tests and quizzes on time.
At Madras students who attend school regularly are more likely to pass math assessments than students who don't attend regularly. Last year 90% of students who missed 0-5 days passed the mathematics portion of the CRCT. That number dropped to 84% when students missed 6-25 days. Students who missed 25 -50 days dropped significantly to 62% meeting expectations, and 0% of students who missed more than 50 days met the standard.
Not only does regular attendance improve student achievement, it also establishes patterns of responsibility and commitment that will serve students throughout their lives, including college, technical or trade school, the military, and the workplace. By being present at school, your child is learning how to be a good citizen by participating in the school community, learning valuable social skills, and developing a broader world view. For older students attending school every day helps them build the academic foundation needed for the future and affords them the opportunity to learn more about career options and scholarships. Please help your child take the responsibility of attending school seriously. Your commitment to school attendance sends the message to your child that education is a priority for your family and that going to school every day is a critical part of educational success.
