Madras
Academic Eagles
Sponsor:
Ginger Adcock
The Madras Academic Eagles is our own
division of the regional academic bowl teams
organized by the West Georgia RESA.
The Madras Academic Eagles team has a legacy
of being highly competitive and successful
at the meets. Therefore, its members are
chosen from very specific academic and
behavioral standards. Students who are
interested will go through a few rounds of
questions sampled from an actual meet. Once
students are selected from their academic
performance, their teachers will be asked to
evaluate them on other factors such as
leadership qualities, attitude at school,
and ability to work cooperatively. Six to
eight members will be chosen as team
members.
Once the team has been selected, they will
practice every Thursday until 4:30p.m. The
meets are held in various locations at
schools in the West Georgia District. There
will be five meets in all, which will be
announced after the sponsors have met. Team
members will be required to return an
"off-campus excursion" note in order to
participate in the meets, even when parents
provide the transportation.
Being a part of the Madras Academic Eagles
is an opportunity for students to show their
peers that being a part of a team doesn't
always involve sports and that success does
always involve thought. The team strives to
build not only pride in our school, but more
importantly, pride in one's self.
