My
name is Janelle Freeman Garner. I was born in LaGrange, Georgia on June 27,
1954. We moved to College Park, Georgia when I was 9 years old. During that
time, I went from a small rural school with dual classrooms; to a city school
with academics and special activities I had never been exposed to. I always
looked at school as a place for an adventure. I loved the atmosphere. I still
do! I graduated from MD Collins High School in 1972 and attended dental
hygienist school and worked in that field for two years
By this time I was married and became a stay at home mom for the next 7 years to
my two children Jennifer and Zack. I began a career in the airline industry in
1983 and loved it! My first job there was pricing tickets, by hand, no
computers then!! After 3 years I received a promotion to assistant manager in
the Consumer Affairs Department. I handled lost and damaged baggage and cargo
claims. I traveled to many different places training other personnel to do the
same. I loved my job there, but I had always wanted to be a teacher. So in
1993, I attended Clayton State College and received an Associate’s Degree in
Education. I received my Bachelor Degree in Middle School Education from Brenau
University in 1996. In 1997, I left the airline to begin teaching in Clayton
County at Kendrick Middle School, 6th Grade Science and Math. I
taught there for 3 years and relocated in Coweta County. During the next four
year, I earned my M Ed. and an Ed. Sp degree in Middle School Education from the
State University of West Georgia.
I became
interested in second language learners during my first year of teaching when I
had eight languages in my homeroom. I received certification in ESOL in 2001
and began teaching ESOL the next year. I came to Moreland in 2004 and truly
enjoy working with the staff and students here. |
