STUDENT COUNCIL

Jefferson Parkway's Student Council is selected from fourth and 5th graders who exhibit excellent leadership qualities.  They meet monthly after school and assist with projects such as the "Can-A-Thon", "Pennies for Patients", and Red Ribbon Week.

The Student Council members will also serve as Peer Mediators. The Peer Mediation Program will assist  students in solving problems and resolve concerns before they reach school administration.  Mediation provides a system of problem solving that is uniquely suited to the personal  nature of young  people’s problems, i.e. conflicts due to competition, friendship, frustration, etc.  The use of mediation to resolve conflicts can result in improved communication and a more positive school climate.  Recognizing that young people care competent to participate in the resolution of their own disputes encourages student growth and gives students skills such as listening, critical thinking, and problem solving activities.
