Superintendent Steve Barker named to Georgia Professional Standards Commission

Superintendent Steve Barker has been appointed to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

The appointment was announced Monday by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, and Dr. Barker was sworn in by the Governor on Tuesday at the Georgia Capitol.  The commission seat carries a three-year term.

“It is an honor that the Governor would entrust me to serve in this role,” said Barker, who was accompanied by his family in Wednesday’s swearing-in ceremony.

The Professional Standards Commission oversees the certification of the state’s public school teachers and matters of professional conduct and ethics, among other duties.  As a member of the 18-seat commission, Dr. Barker will be assigned to the PSC’s ethics subcommittee.

Dr. Barker has served as Superintendent for Coweta County Schools since 2011, and worked in the school system since 1990. He and his wife, Karen, live in Newnan with their children, Cade and Lilli Glen.
