Smokey Road Middle school’s Aaron Corley
Smokey Road Middle School's Dr. Aaron Corley was recently named State Assistant Principal of the Year by the Georgia Association of Secondary School Principals (GASSP).
GASSP is the organization of and state voice for middle and high school principals, assistant principals, and aspiring school leaders in Georgia. GASSP is one of six educational leadership organizations affiliated with the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders (GAEL). The state-level award recognizes one outstanding middle school assistant principal in the state, who, through his vision and leadership, has contributed to higher educational standards that positively impact middle level education.
“We are very proud of this well-deserved honor for Dr. Corley,” said Laurie Barron, principal of Smokey Road Middle School. “He is an extremely passionate and compassionate educator and leader with our middle school students, and is one of the hardest working people I know.”
Corley was also recently honored as a 2011 Georgia Association of Middle School Principals (GAMSP) Exemplary Leadership Award recipient. Receiving both honors in the same year is “is a testament to his strong leadership,” said Barron.
Corley has been an educator in the Coweta County School System for the past ten years. He has served as an elementary school teacher and as an administrator at both the elementary and secondary levels. For the past five years, Corley has served as an assistant principal at Smokey Road Middle School. Corley holds a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, and a Doctorate in School Leadership from the University of West Georgia. His dissertation on the motivations, experiences, and challenges of male elementary school teachers won the Spring 2010 Phi Delta Kappa West Georgia Chapter Research Award.
Corley has been a former school-level Teacher of the Year and has been involved in numerous school improvement and leadership efforts including serving on curriculum committees, working as part of elementary and middle school GAPSS teams, leading both school, and system-level professional development and co-directing the county's New Teacher Orientation program.
Corley is married to Paula Corley, a gifted teacher at White Oak Elementary School in Coweta County, and they have two children.
