                                                            FAQs

What do I do with my child's binder?

The binder should be used to store the agenda. It is also used to send home
any papers throughout the week, including homework. The binder should be
separated into several sections, including: Reading (keep copies of the
reading stories here); Spelling (keep copies of the spelling lists here);
Sight Words (Keep copies of sight word lists here).

What do I do with the sight word flash cards?

Use the index cards to write one sight word on each. Store the cards in the
index card storage container. Keep these at home and flip through each
night. If your child misses a word, mark on the back and go over any missed
cards first the next night. As the year progresses, do not flip through
every card every night. Focus on the week's new list, and periodically
review old lists.

How can I make homework fun?

Remember that kids love to act. Have your child act out the reading story
to you and an audience. When it comes to spelling, use shaving cream,
syrup, anything you can find and smear it out on the table or counter.
Allow your child to practice writing their words in the mixture. Also, let
your child quiz you!

Why is there so much work in First Grade?

First Grade is a critical year--it is imperative that your child develop
basic reading and math skills this year. We lay a foundation in First Grade
upon which all other grades build, therefore our curriculum is thorough and
demanding. Together, we can make it fun, interesting, and creative for your
child!
