Welcome to Elm Street!! The teachers and staff are looking forward to a wonderful year as we continue journey on the road to utilizing, developing, and embracing the “Essential Pieces” for student success.
For those of you new to our school, we are so glad you have chosen to become part of our family. The tradition and history of our school is one that we are extremely proud to share with you as we continue to grow and learn together.
It has been an honor to serve as Elm Street's principal for the past three years and I am looking forward to the great things that the 2008-2009 school year will bring. It is a delight to work in a school that is filled with remarkable children, supportive parents, and activities that make learning come to life.
For those of you, who I have not met, let me share a little about myself. I was born in Ft. Rucker, Alabama to LTC. Bruce and Martha Hayhurst. As an “army brat” my family and I had the opportunity to live in many different locations throughout the United States as well as Germany. My father retired from the military as I was entering high school, and my family moved to Peachtree City. After graduating from McIntosh, I enrolled at Georgia Southern University where I earned my degree in Elementary Education.
Upon graduating, I began teaching first grade at White Oak Elementary. I taught first grade for nine years and then spent my last year as a fourth grade teacher. Throughout the ten years, I was blessed to work with wonderful students, caring families, and a supportive community. It was here that I realized how much I loved working with children and watching them grow and change through the year. I became firmly aware of the collaboration it takes between the school, families and the community to reach each student and worked every day to make those connections stronger.
While at White Oak, I met and married my husband, David. We have been married for 14 years and have two wonderful children. David is 13 and is in the eighth grade at Evans Middle School. My daughter, Casey is 8 and a third grade student at Elm Street.
With the new school year just beginning, I would like to stress how thrilled I am that you have chosen to send your children to Elm Street. I know that together, we will continue to make Elm Street a place where we will REACH each child and ensure their success.
