Zackary Echols tied the Coweta County Middle School long jump record with a jump of 19’ 6 ½”


 

Evans’ newest club – Future Educators Association – aims at promoting future students interested in pursuing the field of education as their career.  Activities have included surveying current teachers regarding their experience and interest so that these teachers can serve as role models.  Nancy Schwoebel and Susan Heard are the current sponsors.

Evan Middle School Spelling Bee Winner

 

Christella Dhammaputri represented Evans well at the Coweta County Spelling Bee held at the Centre of Performing Arts.  Christella was the top speller out of the 711 students at Evans. She competed at the county level against the top 26 students in Coweta County. Christella finished 8th.

 

The State of Georgia School Nutrition Association held its annual art contest this past January. Evans Middle School is proud to say it had the top three finalists for Coweta County. We would like to wish Jay Strickland good luck in the state competition.

Evans Middle School would like to congratulate Christopher Green for being selected to the State of Georgia’s All-State Chorus. The All-State Chorus is comprised of 7-12 grade students that meet the following requirements:  Singing of the major, minor, and chromatic scales, tonal memory, singing a selected piece while being judged on tone, pitch, rhythm, diction, and dynamics, and 3 sightreading examples.  There are 2 rounds of auditions before being accepted into the chorus.  Several thousands of students all over the state audition for this Chorus.  Chris scored a 16. and only had 6 mistakes of everything he was being judged on.  Everyone at Evans is very proud of Chris and wish him the best as he travels to Savannah, GA to represent Evans Middle in the 2009 All-State Mixed Chorus.

Congratulations! 
The Atlanta Dream is pleased to announce that Mikayla Moreau, an 8th grader at Evans Middle School has been selected as a runner-up in the Atlanta Dream’s 2009 “Living the Dream” essay contest.  During the month of February, the Dream introduced the essay contest in celebration of Black History Month and National Girls & Women in Sports Day.  Students were asked to submit their essays on the following topic:

In 500 words or less, describe what “living the dream” means to you and how you are making strides in your personal life, community and school.

In recognition of her accomplishment, Mikayla received a $100 Visa gift card in her name in addition to 50 complimentary tickets for students at Evans Middle School.

Evans Middle School would like to thank the students and the faculty for participating in the St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital Math-A-Thon this year.  

St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases.  St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world.  No family ever pays for treatments not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay.  Evans raised nearly $2000.00 this year ($1978.95) for St. Jude.  Eighth grader, Bobby Swint has been Evans top Math-A-Thon fundraiser for three years in a row.  Evans is proud of everyone who contributed to St. Jude.


State Superintendent visits Evans Middle School
At Evans Principal Vince Bass, Assistant Principals Ron Gill, Assistant Principal Khalilah Allen and parent Sandee Crain toured 6th, 7th and 8th grade classes. Superintendent Cox later met with teachers in the school?s media center to field questions. Principal Bass joined Superintendent Cox in visiting a 7th grade science lab as part of the tour.


 


 

 


 



County Spelling Bee Winner

Evans student wins county championship!

Congratulations to Miranda Hayes for bringing home a championship win to Evans Middle School with the spelling of fibrous in the CLICK Coweta County Spelling Bee.
