Planning Your Career

Planning your career involves identifying your interests and then matching those interests with real life occupations. The following are steps you can take to identify your strengths and interests that might lead you into a career path.

Step 1: Complete a few interest inventories and see if the information that they tell you is what you fell like you are interested in.

Step Three: Determine the post-secondary option that is best for you and the career you are interested in.

	4 year university
	2 year community college

Step Four: Set your goals in writing.

	What are your career goals?
	What things do you need to do in high school to achieve those career goals?
	What finances do you need to have to achieve those career goals?

Step Five: Learn about the career through personal experiences.

	Shadow and interview someone in your desired profession.
	Obtain a summer internship working in the desired field.
	Join a student organization related to your desired profession.
