There are many opportunities for
East Coweta High School students to receive extra help in order to promote
to graduation. Please speak to your counselor to find out more
details on any of the following. Parent/Teacher Conferences and Graduation Team Meetings All meetings are held on an as-needed basis and scheduled through the Guidance Office. The faculty of East Coweta High School is committed to provided every opportunity for students to successfully progress toward graduation. Email is also a wonderful mode of direct communication with members of the faculty. Contact information for staff members is available on-line at www. cowetaschools.org/echs. Graduation Coach, School Psychologist, and Social Worker Referrals Counselors consult with these resources when needed to offer students additional academic, social, and/or behavioral support. USA Test Prep (EOCT and GHSGT Tutorial) USA Test Prep is an online resource to help students effectively prepare for their EOCT and GHSGT. Students, faculty, and parents are given 24 hour access to a variety of resources and tools for testing preparation. The content of the tutorials have been aligned with the Georgia Department of Education curriculum standards. Many students have shown improvements in test scores from using USATestPrep. Students are strongly encouraged to visit this site if they are taking courses with an EOCT or in preparation for the GHSGT. The EOCT counts as 15% of their final grade. Students should ask their teacher or counselor for the current password and for further details. Coweta County Summer School/Night School Summer school is held during the month of June and is held as a credit recovery program that allows students to make up on missing credits so that they can catch up, get ahead and/or graduate. Cost is $400 for 1 credit hour. Interested students should consult their counselor ASAP for course selection and registration materials. GA Virtual School and NOVA Net GA Virtual School is an option for students for on-line credit recovery and also for any other class a student needs that may be offered. The cost is $600 per class and can be completed outside of school. A student that transfers in and needs a class ECHS doesn’t offer can take a GA Virtual School class at home instead of taking a 1st or 4th block class at ECHS. When the GA Virtual School class is taken during the school day as one of their 4 regular classes it is free. NOVA Net is a credit recovery program that allows students to make up classes they have failed while at school. Interested students should consult their counselor ASAP for course selection and registration materials. Coweta County Performance Learning Center (PLC) The PLC is a business-like learning environment for academic innovation where students undertake and complete assingments via NOVA Net with assistance froma learning facilitator. The general purpose is to enable students, whose academic success may be threatened to become successful students who are prepared to move to the next level educationally, vocationally and as citizens of Georgia. PLC provides another road to graduation for high school students who are not succeeding in the traditional school setting. It allows students to work at their own pace using online, computer-based curriculum. Coweta County PLC is housed at the Central Education Center. Teachers or counselors refer students to PLC who are behind in credits, absent an inordinate number of days, at risk of dropping out of school, do not meet grade level competencies, are in need of flexible academic programming in order to overcome personal obstacles, and/or read at a 6th grade level or higher. All students assigned to the PLC achieve at basic grade level competencies before advancing, develop a personal life plan designed to enable them to succeed in school and in life, and can catch up academically or move ahead at their own pace. Upon completion of graduation requirements, students receive their diplomas from East Coweta. Interested students should contact their counselor for the PLC application. General Education Development Coweta County offers free classes to prepare for the GED. Participants have to be at least 16 and not be enrolled in a high school. For more information, click here. As always, the counselors at East Coweta High can be consulted for any student considering this as an option. Youth Challenge The Georgia National Guard Youth Challenge Academy offers male and female at-risk youth the opportunities to change their future in many ways. The initial program consists of a twenty-two (22) week residential phase during which cadets will learn self-discipline, leadership, and responsibility. Participants live and work in a controlled military environment while encouraging teamwork and personal growth. The residential phase also includes GED class instructions and testing, life skills, training, and job training opportunities. A second 12-month post-residential phase consists of helping to enroll students in continued education, a technical school program, or an entry-level job. During the post-residential phase, students are assisted by a trained and matched mentor from the community for post-graduate development. Job Corps Job Corps provides youth with an opportunity to develop skills they need to succeed in a promising career. Job Corps is a federally funded program that costs nothing. Students in the program are paid a monthly allowance, and the longer they stay with the program, the higher their allowance becomes. Job Corps provides youth with the chance to learn a trade and get a high school diploma or GED, and offers youth help in getting a job. Job Corps is committed to offering all students a safe, drug-free environment where they can take advantage of the resources provided. An operator will provide you with general information about the program, refer you to the admissions counselor closest to where you live, and mail you an information packet.
