The way I grade work is based on the quality of the work, not points.  I have described below the various levels of the quality of work that we can do in translation work.  You will always be asked to use this rubric, or grading guide, to evaluate your own work BEFORE I evaluate it.  On other kinds of work, the same catagories and types of quality evaluations will be used.
 
 

LATIN I

Translation tests will be scored in the following way. HQ High Quality—Vocabulary is accurately translated.  Verb tenses are accurately translated.  Noun and adjective cases have been used correctly.  Particles (conjunctions and other adverbial type words) are used and translated correctly.    Translation flows in a coherent English style which accurately represents the Latin.  GQ Good Quality—Vocabulary is accurately translated with minor exception.  Verb tenses are accurately translated with minor exception.  Noun and adjective cases have been used correctly with minor exception.  Particles are used and translated correctly.  Translation flows with occasionally awkward places in a coherent English style which accurately represents the Latin with minor exception. AQ Acceptable Quality—Vocabulary is predominantly accurate.  Verbs are translated accurately with regard to person and number, but may have some tense errors.  Particles are occasionally omitted or used in error.  English is rigid but comprehensible and fairly represents the Latin with minor deviations. PQ Poor Quality—Vocabulary use has multiple errors.  Verb and noun usage has multiple errors.  Particles are frequently omitted or used in error often .  English is awkward and at times incomprehensible.  NQ No Quality—Translation is incoherent at almost every level.
