COMPARISONS

JANUS: The god of gates and doors, beginnings and endings.

This page is our bulletin board!  You will find below, as the year progresses, your own reflections on:

  1. the meaning of the gods and goddesses,
  1. the meaning of words as you learn their Latin roots, and
  1. politics (the use of power) as you compare Roman ways of using power with American ways of using power.
  2. projects--your own, that is, as you create and display them here.

Keep in mind that this is on the web, and we have an opportunity to share our own learning with students and teachers, literally, around the world.

As the Romans Did

The following Power Point Presentations were created by Latin I students from CEC in the fall of 2003.  They based their work primarily on Jo-Ann Shelton’s book As the Romans Did, a Sourcebook in Roman Social History (Oxford University Press, 1998, Second Edition).   Students also did additional research on the topics and created these full text power points.  “Full-text” means that they are complete in themselves and do not require a speaker of script to understand them.  Each power point is accompanied by a quiz of 20 questions over the material.

If you do not have Power Point on your computer, you may get a free reader by going here.
