Dr. Julie Durrance introduces herself to Arbor Springs Elementary School!
I grew up in Coweta County, and attended Coweta County schools. I received my bachelor’s degree and my master’s degree in Secondary English Education from Auburn University, and I received my specialist and doctorate degrees in Educational Leadership from Samford University. My husband, Jon Durrance, and I have three beautiful children—Audrey, who is studying teacher education at Mercer University, Eleanor, who is studying teacher education at Kennesaw State University, and Russell, who graduates from Northgate High School this May. We also have an adorable granddaughter, Cassandra, who will be 2 years old in June.
I began my teaching career working for the Department of Defense Dependent School System in Ulm, Federal Republic of Germany while my husband was a full-time Army officer. Our family moved back to the United States in 1989 and we lived in Columbus, GA; Petersburg, VA; and ultimately settled back in Newnan in 1994. I co-founded the Kids Castle Park project from 1998-1999 and began teaching English at Northgate High School in 2001, continuing there until 2008. I was offered the position of assistant principal at Thomas Crossroads in 2008 and enjoyed five years there. I am very excited about continuing my leadership career at Arbor Springs.

Arbor Springs Elementary School New Principal for the 2013/2014 School Year
The Board of Education tonight (Tuesday, April 9) approved Julie Durrance as the new principal for our school, beginning with the 2013-14 school year Julie will replace Patti Falk, who announced her June retirement last month (think: Grandchildren time!). Julie is currently the assistant principal at Thomas Crossroads Elementary School, a school very much like ours in terms of demographics and student achievement. It’s even built the same way, so she’ll find her way around here easily! Julie has been the a.p. there for a number of years and has a vast range of experience that will be a plus here at Arbor Springs. She is committed to working with Dr. Golden and everyone here to assure that the great work at Arbor Springs continues.
We are a unique school community here, and Julie is well aware of that. She understands and respects the high level of achievement and the incredible work ethic of our students and our excellent staff. She knows that Dr. Golden has been a vital force here, has contributed in so many ways, and she’ll look to Steph to help guide her through this transition. Julie is gratified by this appointment, is excited about working hand in hand with Dr. Golden, and looks forward to joining our staff and helping to carry on the excellent traditions at our school. She’s really looking forward to getting to know our students and their families as well.
Mr. Bass will introduce Julie formally Wednesday afternoon at our staff meeting. We’re looking forward to meeting her and to welcoming her into our school community. Together we will make this transition positive, and nothing but onward and upward for Arbor Springs! Yes, it’s a change, but it’s a good change and one that will serve our school well! Please do join us in welcoming Julie Durrance to Arbor Springs!
