Accelerated Reader (AR) is a motivational program that promotes reading and
encourages students to increase their reading comprehension skills. Students at
Arnall are able to make their own choices of books to read from hundreds of
titles available in the media center. Each title included in the Accelerated
Reader program can be easily identified by a blue label on the book's spine.
The Accelerated Reader process is a simple one. After students read a book from the Accelerated Reader list. they take a short computerized objective test. When they complete the test, they are given immediate feedback in the form of reading points. The program awards reading points based on the length and difficulty of the book, as well as the number of questions answered correctly. A student must answer at least 60 per cent of the test questions correctly to receive any points.
Accelerated Reader keeps track of the tests students take and the points they earn. Students may accumulate points over a period of time and use them to redeem points in the media center for prizes.
