The time of the Friday, October 31
football game between East Coweta High School and Riverdale High
School at Clayton County’s Tara Stadium has been changed to 4:00
p.m.
According to Clayton County School Public Information Officer
Charles White, concerns over recent events in the Riverdale
community prompted officials with Clayton County Public Schools
to consult with the Coweta County School officials regarding a
change in the starting time of the Friday night football game.
“It is our desire to provide a safe and secure environment for
the student athletes to participate in the game and the fans to
watch the game,” said John Walker, Director of School Safety for
Clayton County. “We haven’t received any indication that
anything would happen, we just wanted to ensure the best
environment possible for this important football game.”
Precautionary concerns led Clayton officials to request that
East Coweta High School agree to move the game to Saturday
morning, or agree to an earlier kickoff time on Friday in order
to complete the game and get students and parents home earlier
on Halloween.
East Coweta High School Athletic Director Evan Horton consulted
with Superintendent Blake Bass about the request. After speaking
with Clayton County’s Superintendent of Schools and the Clayton
County Chief of Police, Bass was given assurances that it was
safe for students and parents to travel to Tara Stadium for the
event on Friday afternoon.
The school systems and schools agreed to the earlier kickoff
time on Thursday.
Several other metropolitan Atlanta systems schedule football
games at 4:00 p.m. as well. |
