The Coweta County School System educates children from
Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade through 29 elementary,
middle and high schools organized on a district basis. Parents
of students who are new to the Coweta County School System must
enroll at their districted school. To find out which elementary,
middle and high school serve your home call the School System
Transportation Office at 770-254-2820.
Parents may register their children during any regular business
day (please see our school calendar). Pre-Kindergarten classes
are funded by the state of Georgia on a limited basis, and are
the only age group that the schools may not have space to
enroll. Please call your child’s school for more information
about pre-Kindergarten availability or enrollment (see the new
School Directory for administrators and school telephone
numbers).
To enroll in a Georgia public school, Pre-K students must be 4
years old by September 1st; Kindergarten students must be 5
years old by September 1st; and First Grade students must be 6
years old by September 1st.
To register a child in Coweta County Schools for the first time,
the following documentation is required:
1. A Notarized Affidavit of
Residence (obtainable online or at the school) and
two items from the following list for address verification:
a. property tax records which indicate the location of the
residence;
b. mortgage documents or a security deed which indicates the
location of the residence;
c. apartment or home lease or rent receipt indicating the
current address;
d. current utility bill for electricity or utility application
for electricity showing the current address;
e. voter precinct identification card or other voter
documentation indicating the current address.
2. A certified copy of
child’s birth certificate (hospital copy not
acceptable)
3. The child’s Social
Security Card (or signed waiver)
4. A current state picture ID
or driver’s license of the parent or legal guardian
registering student
5. Custody papers
(if applicable). If parents are divorced, a copy of the final
divorce decree must be provided.
A child must actually reside in a home within the school’s
attendance area. If a family does not actually occupy the
property, but has a move-in date, please contact the
Superintendent’s office at 770-254-2801.
If a parent/legal guardian resides in a household other than
their own and does not have their own proofs of residency, both
parties (the parent and the host) must complete an affidavit of
residency at the Coweta County School System Central Office, 237
Jackson Street, Newnan, Monday-Friday 8:00 p.m. to12:00 p.m. and
2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In order to obtain an affidavit, the
parent/legal guardian and the person with whom the parent/legal
guardian is living must both visit the Board of Education
Office. The person with whom the parent/legal guardian is living
must provide a current state photo I.D., a copy of his/her lease
or deed, showing the street address and name of resident, and a
current electric bill. Questions regarding this affidavit should
be directed to Pat Nixon at 770-254-2802.
All registering parents parent should also have – or provide at
the earliest possible date before the start of school – their
child’s last report card, high school transcript, withdrawal
form or transfer form, if the child has attended another school
before coming to a Coweta County school. Those documents will
allow the school to devise an academic schedule for the child.
If a child receives special educational services, a copy of the
child’s Individual Educational Plan (IEP) will also be
necessary.
New high school students cannot be scheduled for appropriate
coursework without an unofficial transcript from their previous
school. Parents are urged to provide transcripts to the
enrolled school at the earliest possible date, preferably at the
time of registration.
Within 30 days of enrollment, the school will also need:
• Immunization certificate
(Georgia Form 3231)
• Hearing-Dental-Vision
certificate (Georgia Form 3300)
• Emergency contact
information and parent consent form (provided at the
school)
The school can work with parents to obtain school documents and
other documents as needed.
There are new immunization requirements beginning in the 2007-08
school year. Coweta County students and new enrollees must meet
all immunization guidelines required by the state of Georgia.
Immunization and health screenings can be obtained from private
physicians or the Coweta County Health Department at 137 Jackson
Street in Newnan. Immunizations and screenings are given by the
health department Monday thru Friday 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., and 1
p.m. to 3:30 p.m. An appointment is required, and can be made by
calling 770-254-7400.
All Pre-K students will need a new certificate dated after March
1, 2007. The child’s immunization status will be evaluated and
required immunizations given, if indicated and a new certificate
(Form 3231) issued.
If your child is a rising 6th grader, a rising Kindergartner, or
a new student to the Coweta County School System, the child must
have two Varicella vaccinations or proof of immunity (by blood
test) or proof of disease history (a year of chickenpox illness)
documented on the Georgia form 3231 immunization certificate.
For a more in-depth explanation of the new Georgia immunization
guidelines, see the related information on our website, or call
the Coweta County Health Department at 770-254-7400, or contact
your private health care provider. Parents/legal guardians
should bring copies of all previous immunization records, and
all pertinent Medicaid information, if applicable.
