grade
students
who are
in need
of
Criterion
Reference
Competency
Test (CRCT)
retesting
this
summer
have
been
notified
by their
schools
of
retest
dates
and
preparatory
classes
available
this
summer.
The
state
Department
of
Education
notified
Coweta
School
officials
this
week of
students
who did
not meet
scores
on CRCT
reading
or math
sections
required
for
promotion
to the
next
grade.
For
those
students
who did
not
perform
on grade
level,
the
Coweta
County
School
System
is
offering
a Summer
Focus
program
of
additional,
differentiated
or
accelerated
instruction
during
the
month of
June.
The
program
will
begin on
Monday,
June 4
and will
be held
daily
from
8:30
a.m.
until
11:30
a.m.
through
Wednesday,
June 20.
Parents
who
received
letters
notifying
them of
Summer
Focus
classes
this
week
must
fill out
the
information
required
in the
letter
and
return
the form
to their
child’s
school
by
Wednesday,
May 23
in order
to
attend.
If
transportation
is
needed,
parents
should
call
Cindy
Floyd or
Dorrie

A retest
of the
Reading
CRCT
will be
given on
Thursday,
June 21
and the
Math
CRCT on
Friday,
June 22.
Summer
Focus
classes
are
being
held at
Arbor
Springs
(for
students
at Arbor
Springs,
Northside
and
Canongate
elementary
schools),
Grantville
(for
students
at
Grantville,
Moreland
and
Atkinson
elementary
schools);
Welch
(for
students
at
Welch,
Newnan
Crossing,
Jefferson
Parkway
and
White
Oak
elementary
schools);
Elm
Street
(for
students
at Elm
Street,
Western,
Arnco-Sargent
and Ruth
Hill
elementary
schools);
and
Willis
Road
(for
students
at
Willis
Road,
Eastside,
Poplar
Road and
Thomas
Crossroads
elementary
schools).
There is
no
tuition
required.
Only
parents
with
students
who need
the
testing
for
promotion
purposes
received
a letter
from
their
schools
this
week.

All
parents
will
receive
detailed
information
about
their
child’s
performance
on the
CRCT at
a later
date,
when
full
reports
are
received
from the
state.
Both the
federal
No Child
Left
Behind
Act and
the
Georgia
Board of
Education
mandate
that all
third
grade
students
had to
perform
at grade
level on
this
CRCT in
reading
in order
to be
promoted
and all
fifth
grade
students
had to
meet
standards
in both
reading
and math
in order
to be
promoted
to the
next
grade
level.
The
instruction
offered
during
the June
Summer
Focus
program
is
individualized
to help
students
prepare
to take
the
retest
in the
areas
they
need
most.
Students
who are
not able
to
attend
these
classes
must
still
take the
reading
retest
on the
June 21
and/or
the math
retest
on the
June 22
to be
eligible
to be
promoted
or
placed
in the
next
grade.
