The Coweta County Board of Education
honored eight Coweta County elementary schools as Distinguished
Title I Schools, at its regular meeting on Tuesday, October 9.
The Georgia Department of Education’s Title I Recognition and
Distinguished Schools program honors those Title I elementary
and secondary schools that make adequate yearly progress (AYP)
three or more consecutive years. AYP is determined under the No
Child Left Behind ACT.
Several Coweta County schools were recognized for making AYP for
three or more consecutive years.
Poplar Road and Grantville Elementary Schools were recognized
for making AYP for three consecutive years, and were presented
with a certificate of accomplishment.
Arnco-Sargent, Newnan Crossing and Atkinson Elementary Schools
were recognized for making AYP for five consecutive years, and
were presented with a certificate of accomplishment.
Ruth Hill, Jefferson Parkway and Elm Street Elementary Schools
were recognized for making AYP for six consecutive years, and
were presented with a certificate of accomplishment.
“We appreciate the hard work that the principals and staff at
these schools have done,” said Blake Bass, Superintendent of the
Coweta County School System.
The Title I Distinguished Schools Grant recipients were honored
for their performance in the 2006-07 school year. The number of
schools honored varies from year to year, and is dependent on
the number of schools meeting the criteria.
Schools identified for recognition must meet or exceed AYP for
three or more consecutive years and must have not been on the
Unsafe Schools Choice Option (USCO) list within the last two
years.

Several Coweta County Title I schools were recognized by the
state of Georgia as “Distinguished Schools” for consistent high
performance on student test scores under the No Child Left
Behind Act over the course of three or more years. Appearing at
