The
2007-08
school
year
will
begin
Monday,
August
6
and
end
on
Friday,
May
23,
following
the
adoption
of
new
school-year
calendars
by
the
Coweta
County
Board
of
Education
Tuesday.
The
Board
adopted
“option
1”
calendars
at
their
December
13
regular
meeting,
following
several
weeks
of
public
input
on
calendar
options
through
December
1.
The
Board’s
adoption
of
the
calendars
sets
the
school
year
start
times
and
holidays
for
the
2007-08
and
2008-09
school
years.
The
newly-adopted
school
calendars
are
similar
to
the
current
calendars
used
by
the
Coweta
County
School
System,
and
include
a
full-week
Thanksgiving
Break,
a
two-week
Christmas
and
New
Year’s
break,
a
full
week
break
in
late
February
and
a
full
week
of
spring
break.
Both
options
scheduled
180
days
of
student
instruction,
but
re-arranged
break
times
and
start
dates.
The
option
2
calendar
started
school
one
week
later,
but
shortened
the
Thanksgiving
and
Christmas
holidays.
Superintendent
Blake
Bass
informed
the
Board
Tuesday
that
there
were
725
public
comments
collected
on
the
two
options
for
next
year’s
calendar.
545
of
them
were
in
favor
of
option
1.
Similarly,
332
of
438
comments
on
the
two
options
for
the
2008-09
calendar
were
in
favor
of
option
1
version
of
that
calendar.
